Self-taught luxury streetwear designer from Oldbury, whose grandparents immigrated from Punjab, India, is helping shape an Emmy®-considered immersive production.
The journey of a British Punjabi fashion designer from Oldbury to the international creative stage is entering a new chapter, as his costume design work forms part of an Emmy® campaign for groundbreaking immersive production La Pandora’s BoxTM.
Jashaan Gill, founder and creative director of luxury Streetwear brand Jheez, served as Head of Wardrobe and Key Costume Designer for Acts 1 and 2 of La Pandora’s BoxTM, the pioneering immersive motion-picture concert created by Nadeem Majdalany.
The production has been officially submitted for Emmy® consideration, with its current campaign focused on Outstanding Innovation in Emerging Media Programming.
For Gill, the significance extends beyond the production itself.
He is a self-taught designer, having built his career outside the traditional fashion- school pathway. His grandparents immigrated from Punjab, India, to the United
Kingdom, with their journey forming an important part of the family story that ultimately led to Gill growing up in Oldbury in the West Midlands.
“My grandparents came from Punjab to build a life here,” says Gill. “I grew up in Oldbury, and I’ve always understood that the opportunities I have today are connected to the sacrifices that came before me.”
“I’m proud to be British Punjabi. My heritage is part of my identity, but so is Oldbury. Both have shaped me.”
BUILDING WITHOUT THE TRADITIONAL ROADMAP
Gill’s route into fashion was unconventional.
Rather than attending fashion school, he taught himself the skills required to develop his craft and establish himself within the industry.
He went on to build JHEEZ, a luxury streetwear brand, while developing a multidisciplinary creative practice spanning fashion, film, immersive media and storytelling.
His work on La Pandora’s BoxTM represents another step in that evolution. Gill served as Head of Wardrobe and Key Costume Designer for Acts 1 and 2 of La Pandora’s BoxTM, the pioneering immersive motion-picture concert created by Nadeem Majdalany. The production has been officially submitted for Emmy® consideration in Outstanding Innovation in Emerging Media Programming.
The 43-minute immersive production combines orchestral music, cinematic storytelling, theatre, dance and emerging technology and was created specifically for virtual reality. It was filmed in true 360° 12K RAW and brings together artists, designers, musicians, performers and technicians from multiple disciplines and countries.
Gill’s costume work helped establish the visual language of the production’s opening acts, supporting the mythology and emotional progression while balancing the practical demands of immersive virtual production.
Nadeem Majdalany describes Gill’s contribution as helping establish the visual language of La Pandora’s BoxTM, with the wardrobe balancing cinematic storytelling and the practical demands of immersive virtual production.
REPRESENTING A NEW GENERATION
For Gill, representation is about more than visibility.
It is about creating possibility.
“I know how powerful it can be for someone from your own community to see someone who started somewhere similar to them achieving things they might have thought were out of reach,” says Gill.
“I didn’t have a traditional roadmap into fashion. I had to teach myself, create opportunities and keep knocking on doors. If someone from the next generation sees this and thinks, ‘Maybe I can do it too,’ then that’s something I’m incredibly
proud of.”
FROM PUNJAB TO NEW YORK — AND HOME
The Emmy® campaign arrives during a major period in Gill’s creative career.
As the Emmy® Awards take place this September, Gill will also be preparing to head a show at New York Fashion Week.
His international fashion journey will then come full circle in Q1 2027, when he returns to the West Midlands for The Homecoming Show, presenting his new collection in the region where his own creative journey began.
For a designer whose family journey began with his grandparents’ migration from Punjab, India, the symbolism is powerful: Punjab → Oldbury → New York → Hollywood → Home.
The Emmy® outcome will be known this month (September), with Gill now awaiting the result alongside the wider La Pandora’s BoxTM team.
“My grandparents came here from Punjab looking for opportunity,” Gill says. “I’mnow able to take the opportunities they’ve helped make possible and carry our story into places I could never have imagined when I was starting out.”
