Shropshire housing association on the lookout for an apprentice

John Green, Chief Executive of Shropshire Rural Housing

A housing association in Shropshire is looking to expand its team with the appointment of an apprentice – and applications are open now.

The opportunity at Shropshire Rural Housing Association comes with the added incentive of a full-time position being offered if the term of apprenticeship proves successful.

Shropshire Rural Housing Association, based in Bayston Hill, provides affordable housing in rural Shropshire, managing and maintaining 300 homes across the county.

Managers say the successful applicant will get the chance to experience all aspects of a successful housing association and have the opportunity to work towards obtaining further valuable qualifications.

The role includes helping to establish new approaches which will enable tenants to influence decisions at all levels of the association, being heavily involved in the association’s social media platforms and being an integral part of day-to-day operations.

Kate Adams, the association’s Finance Director, said: “We have a vacancy for a Tenant Engagement and Customer Services Apprentice, and would love to hear from anyone who is passionate about providing excellent customer service as part of a positive team environment.

“We are looking for someone who is good with IT and using social media, as this will be essential to the role, has Level 2 qualifications in English and maths – or the equivalent – and is willing to undertake Apprentice Level 2 Customer Services and further housing qualifications as required.

“A key role for our successful applicant will be to work alongside our team and voluntary board members to establish new and innovative ways of engaging with our tenants.

“They will help develop and implement customer satisfaction monitoring systems, reporting and investigation to improve customer service and will be involved in providing a customer-focused planned maintenance service.”

John Green, Chief Executive of Shropshire Rural Housing Association, said the apprenticeship was a “great opportunity” to gain valuable experience with a clear route to a full-time position.

He said: “This is a very wide-ranging role, involving managing our social media channels, dealing with customer enquiries, taking payments, processing repair requests and assisting in lettings of property – learning all the skills connected with working for a successful housing association.

“We are looking for a person with excellent personal skills who displays high levels of attention to detail, is an excellent written and verbal communicator and has good organisational and time management skills.

“These are exciting times for the association and our customers, and this is a great opportunity for someone to be a part of our journey in making a real difference to people’s lives.”
