India’s cricketing stars have turned to Medicom for protection from Covid-19, which has forced the cancellation of their match against England.
The world-leading PPE manufacturer has provided 600 of its internationally renowned Kolmi medical masks for free, after being directly approached by the Indian team physio Nitin Patel yesterday (Sept 9).
The last of India’s five tests against England was due to start at Old Trafford today, but has been called off because a number of the Indians’ backroom staff have tested positive for Covid.
Twelve boxes of the masks, produced at Medicom’s new factory in Northampton, have been delivered to the team’s Manchester hotel this morning after a special mercy dash across the Pennines.
Most of the consignment is of FFP3 high-protection respiratory masks, which filter up to 99% of airborne particles and are favoured by many healthcare organisations. They’re known to be highly effective in preventing the spread of infection.
FFP3 masks need to be carefully fitted to ensure a good seal, so Medicom produces them in small, medium and large. The company has donated some of each to the Indian team, to ensure everyone has the right size.
Medicom’s UK Managing Director Hugues Bourgeois said: “We’re proud to be producing millions of masks for front-line NHS staff. This request was certainly unexpected, but it’s a great honour to safeguard such sporting stars and we’re happy to help.”
Canadian-based Medicom has been a specialist global manufacturer of high quality PPE for decades, and is a key supplier to national governments.
The company’s Northampton factory is manufacturing more than 1.5 million face masks a day to help the NHS combat Covid. The hi-tech facility features a clean room more than 65 metres long, where the masks are made in carefully controlled conditions.
