Fountains Care Home in Shirley, Solihull opened in May 2020 and residents celebrated their very first World Book Day together. Staff and residents each read pages of the book and recorded the readings of “Visiting Grandad’s new home” by Virginia Ironside.
The story is about Emma’s grandad, who moves into a care home due to living with dementia and needing more support and care.
The book is to support younger members of the family to understand dementia a little more and what to expect when visiting a grandparent or other family member in their new environment.
We have 35 copies of “visiting Grandad’s new home” and “visiting Gran’s new home” to give away to families who may be facing this sensitive subject with children.
