Local older people’s charity, Age UK Solihull, has celebrated the wonderful work of their volunteers with a delicious lunch.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mrs Flo Nash and Mayor’s Consort, Mr Alan Nash, were special guests at the event at the Core Theatre.
80 volunteers and the Mayor enjoyed sandwiches, cakes and wine, and each guest received a free raffle ticket for a range of prizes.
The Mayor presented longstanding volunteers with certificates, including Victoria Whitehouse, who has volunteered for Age UK Solihull for an impressive 15 years.
Volunteer Coordinator, Catherine Gulati, says, “We have over 250 volunteers who help us in so many ways. Volunteers visit lonely older people in their homes, drive clients to our classes, assist with benefit forms, help with fundraising, and do many other roles. It’s a fabulous contribution to improving the lives of older people. We were delighted to thank them with our annual lunch party.”
Councillor Mrs Flo Nash, says, “It was fantastic to attend the Volunteers’ Lunch and hear about the incredible difference that volunteers make at Age UK Solihull.”
Volunteer Victoria Whitehouse, says, “I’m proud to have volunteered for Age UK Solihull for 15 years. I’ve learned an awful lot working alongside such knowledgeable and helpful staff, and it’s so rewarding to help so many local people. I often see people coming into our Community Advice Hubs looking depressed and anxious, and on their way out their body language has completely changed, as if their problem has been lifted, just by talking to someone.”
