Good sports from the West Midlands commercial property sector have celebrated a decade of French-themed fundraising by donating hundreds of pounds to Sport Relief.
More than 100 of the region’s leading property professionals gathered at Alternative MIPIM, Birmingham’s answer to the annual real estate exhibition in Cannes, France.
It was staged at Anderson’s Bar and Grill in the Jewellery Quarter, where guests enjoyed fine wine alongside a leisurely French style lunch, created by chef Dan Anderson.
Alternative MIPIM saw guests swap berets for balls, with the sale of commemorative Sport Relief soft balls raising £891 for vulnerable people in both the UK and the world’s poorest countries.
Now in its 10th year, the event has continued to grow in stature since the inaugural event in 2009, cementing Alternative MIPIM’s place in the property diary.
The event was organised by Barques managing director Jilly Cosgrove and Mike Hargreaves and Stuart Franks of Coltham Developments.
Jilly said: “We’re hugely proud to have celebrated the 10th anniversary of Alternative MIPIM in Birmingham.
“Ten years ago when the credit crunch was in full cry, we decided that there must be a way of getting commercial property professionals together without all the expense involved in flying to Cannes to attend MIPIM. The idea very quickly took off and Alternative MIPIM was born.
“This year’s event was another great success and was thoroughly well attended by representatives from the city’s property sector. Everyone had a great time, which was reflected in the generous donations that were made in support of Sport Relief – we are delighted to be able to help such a wonderful cause.”
Sport Relief is biennial charity event from Comic Relief, which brings together the worlds of sport and entertainment to fundraise for causes at home and abroad. It takes place this year on 17th – 23rd March.
