Property firm St Joseph has been given the green light from Birmingham City Council to develop a luxury waterside apartment complex at the heart of the city’s historic Gun Quarter.
The Snow Hill Wharf project, located on Shadwell Street, will see the company build 404 high-quality new homes overlooking the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal. Building works are due to commence on site in the summer of this year.
The Gun Quarter was originally identified as an area of regeneration in Birmingham’s Big City Plan. In line with this and St Joseph’s founding placemaking principle – where it seeks to create lasting communities – the developer is committed to building a range of state-of-the-art apartments that will attract more than 700 residents, and Birmingham City Council project it to bring an additional £5 million annual expenditure to the local economy.
Boasting a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments located in five uniquely styled buildings – Snow Hill Wharf will offer scenic views of the city and its growing skyline, with a collection of three podium gardens overlooking the same waterway that acted as a catalyst for the industrial revolution.
Alongside apartments, the site will feature a gymnasium with a sauna and steamroom, a luxury residents lounge and cinema room, and a 24/7 resident concierge.

This successful planning application marks a new beginning for the St Joseph brand. Reflecting its long-term commitment to the Midlands, the firm has recently moved its offices to Colmore Row in the heart of the Business District. The office will be St Joseph’s headquarters as it looks forward to investing in further region-wide developments over the coming years.
St Joseph forms part of the FTSE 100 Berkeley Group, responsible for many of the most ambitious, ground-breaking and inspiring developments in the UK, including the £1billion transformation of Kidbrooke Village, London. The company’s name is inspired by the Birmingham Mayor Joseph Chamberlain, famed for his work to reform the education system in the 1860s and the business is looking to oversee similar transformation within Birmingham.
