2017 has been a fantastic year for grass-roots projects in England who have received funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery in excess of £6.8million.
This funding was awarded through a small grants programme, which invites charities and community groups to apply for up to £20,000 for specific projects.
This incredible sum was shared between 728 different projects that are making a huge difference to local communities across the country.
One of those good causes is Bamboozle Theatre Company in Leicester, which received £20,000 this year to provide weekly multi-sensory sessions for families with children who have profound and multiple learning disabilities.
Laura Guthrie from the charity said: “The funding we have received from players of People’s Postcode Lottery is enabling us to support families with young adults with profound learning disabilities to access meaningful activities with their peers and for parents and carers to be trained in delivering these activities. These young adults are often left without any daytime services and little access to sharing experiences with their peers.”
When players sign up to the lottery, they play with their postcode. With 31% of all ticket sales going directly to charity, players have raised £255 million for over 4,000 good causes across Great Britain and internationally.
Clara Govier, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “It’s incredible that players are supporting hundreds of deserving projects in communities across England. 2017 has been an amazing year and we are looking forward to funding even more brilliant causes in 2018.”
Next year will bring even more opportunities for local groups to apply for grants of up to £20,000 from one of three Trusts: People’s Postcode Trust, Postcode Local Trust and Postcode Community Trust.
