What started as redundancy turned into one of the most uplifting and empowering small business stories in the UK.
Meet Vicki Wilson, the award-winning disabled entrepreneur behind Vicki Admin Fairy® – a powerhouse virtual assistant service supporting small businesses, disabled entrepreneurs, and neurodivergent founders nationwide. Based in Shropshire but working with clients across the UK, Vicki is a living testament to the fact that resilience, passion, and purpose can drive genuine transformation.
After being made redundant from HMRC in 2020, where she had built a 20-year career in administration and compliance, Vicki found herself at a crossroads. Rather than viewing redundancy as an end, she saw it as the beginning of something new. Drawing on her experience, organisational strengths, and natural empathy, she set up Vicki Admin Fairy with just one client, paying £40 a month for social media support.
Fast forward four and a half years, and Vicki now supports over 15 clients across various industries, including finance, fitness, trades, wellbeing, and legal services. Her services have expanded from basic admin to include inbox and diary management, CRM systems, digital filing, social media scheduling, newsletter creation, Canva design, trademark applications, transcription, and more. Her husband, Stephen, also supports the business with bookkeeping through his company, Greenhills Bookkeeping.
Her annual turnover now exceeds £30,000, a milestone that reflects not only financial growth but also the credibility, trust, and demand she has earned in the small business community.
Vicki has cerebral palsy, and while her disability is part of her identity, it is never the whole story. As she explains:
“Being disabled isn’t something I hide or apologise for – it’s part of who I am. But it never defines what I can deliver. I’m a Virtual Assistant who happens to be disabled – not a VA because I had no other choice. I didn’t fall into this. I built it. I chose this path because I love what I do – and my clients love what I do too.”
She continues: “My disability gives me a unique perspective, yes – but it’s not my headline. My results are. My reliability is. The way I help clients move forward, feel less overwhelmed, and get back to doing what they love – that’s what I lead with.”
Her business flexibility allows her to work around her energy levels and maintain an exercise routine, which includes walking practice to manage her mobility. This self-care and discipline also fuel the consistency she brings to her clients.
In 2025 alone, Vicki:
- Was named a winner of Theo Paphitis’ Small Business Sunday (#SBS) – one of the UK’s most celebrated small business networks.
- Was Highly Commended – Independent VA of the Year at the PA Forum West Midlands Awards.
- Was named Winner of the Inspiring Journey Award at the Woman Who Achieves Awards 2025.
- Was recognised as one of the 60 Digital Women to Watch in 2025.
- Became a mentor with Digital Boost and took on the role of Peer Support for Disabled VAs for the Society of Virtual Assistants, offering guidance, lived experience, and a safe space for others navigating the VA world with a disability.
- Was invited to the House of Lords as part of the Small Business Britain Lilac Review, witnessing the presentation of the final report before it goes to the government.
- Was invited to take part in a roundtable with the Department for Business and Trade, discussing how to improve disabled entrepreneurs’ access to finance and funding.
- Was announced as a finalist in two categories – Freelancer of the Year and Disabled Entrepreneur of the Year – at the Business Success Network Awards, with winners to be announced in September.
And the most incredible part? All of this happened before the end of July 2025.
She has also featured in publications such as Oswestry Life, Scope, and the Lilac Review. She has presented to membership organisations like KoffeeKlatch on the importance of trademarking and protecting your business.
