A small charity devoted to helping raise research funds into Blood Cancers as well as offering financial assistance to those with Blood Cancers held a highly successful fundraiser recently.
Merseyside Against Blood Cancers which has just celebrated its tenth year, hosted the Winter In Bloom Festive Ball at the Liner Hotel in Liverpool City Centre with 125 guests in attendance.
Chairperson Abi Pointing spoke of her delight at the success of the event and said: “With a surplus for the event raised of £17,712, add to that several large donations including £12k from Lunya’s Elaine and Peter Kinsella and more than £2k from Cathy Flynn, our total fund for the event was £32k. There are so many people to thank in donating auction and raffle prizes plus all the winning bidders. I also want to add huge thanks to Jean Gadsby who helped co-organise the event with myself.
“We are also very grateful for the contributions made by Professor Mark Power, Vice-Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University, Independent Artist Elaine Adams, Richard Durney Construction, Dave Brewitt and Amy de Joia of Hope Street Hotel Liverpool, Roger Phillips, Chair of The Athenaeum, Vikki Allen and Wong’s Jewellers for their generosity in donating auction prizes.
Two of the most sought after prizes on the night were created by Elaine Kinsella and husband, Peter, Chef to the House. Their two auction prizes consisting of a Lunya-catered banquet at home went for £2,300 each.
The charity’s patron Roger Phillips welcomed the guests. Liverpool’s Steve MacFarlane and Gary Millar played their part as host and auctioneer respectively along with DJ Billy Hui, musician Chris Ray. Professor Louise Kenny, Pro-Vice-Chancellor University of Liverpool, spoke about the importance of investment into scientific research into blood cancers, and cancers generally.
Lady Anne Dodd was also present and has been a loyal supporter of Merseyside Against Blood Cancers for many years.
The evening also included founding trustee ‘Father’ Frank Donovan receiving a commemorative silver plate from Trustee Colleague Emily Hill for his service to Merseyside Against Blood Cancers.
