The UK commemorates Black History Month every October, celebrating Black heritage with a month of festivities, deep reflection and community gathering!
This year’s theme is “Reclaiming Narratives”. This month, we look to shine a brighter light on Black stories, history and achievements by sharing amazing success stories of Black individuals. By remembering our heroes, we can inspire the next generation to look back on their heritage fondly, and feel empowered to create a better future!
For the five Fosang sisters, their own history is a treasure trove of inspiration for a beautiful family project.
Raised by a tight-knit family with Cameroonian heritage, Laura, Briget, Noella, Caroline and Kareen Fosang wanted to honour their Black heritage by crafting a rum brand inspired by West African flavours. Thus, Étän Rum was born!
Like the Fosang family, rum has a rich history. Originating from the Caribbean, the spirit is now enjoyed by millions globally. The British-Cameroonian family’s diverse background is personified by Étän Rum’s fusion of traditional dark rum with African flavours.
The Cameroonian inspiration also extends to Étän Rum’s presentation. The rum is encased in a luxurious glass bottle that reflects the beautiful and grand festivals that the Bali region is known for.
What began as a side project has flourished into a premium 40% ABV golden spiced rum, embodying the special bond shared by the Fosang sisters. At its core, Étän Rum is a tribute to the sisters’ Cameroonian heritage. Cameroon’s diverse mix of indigenous herbs and spices subtly influences Étän’s flavour profile, a harmonious blend of botanicals found in and around West Africa.
The Fosang family would like to wish everyone a Happy Black History Month, and to invite Black families to share their unique stories with their community over a glass of Étän Rum!
