Wrap up in a wool throw from Country Mouse – and feel like you’re being given a warm hug

Helen with Theo Paphitis

Based in rural Wiltshire, Country Mouse sells beautiful, versatile and timeless wool products.

Carefully sourced from mills in Britain and Sweden, the range includes Gotland lambswool blankets, super-soft merino wool throws and warm alpaca socks. With a focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly materials, Country Mouse also offers recycled and eco-wool blankets and throws, as well as a complementary selection of kitchenware and accessories.

Former history teacher Helen Lloyd established the company in 2015, after buying a recycled-wool throw while on holiday in Cornwall. ‘That was it, I was hooked,’ she says. ‘I’m really passionate about wool throws and blankets, from their variety of patterns to their eco credentials. Wool is an amazing natural fibre with so many great properties. As well as being sustainable, it is temperature regulating, odour resistant, durable and biodegradable, to list just a few.

‘A wool blanket or throw is incredibly versatile. It’s an easy way to add warmth, colour and texture to your home, it can be an extra layer on a bed, cheer up a chair or even used for a picnic on the beach. They make great presents. And of course they’re perfect for getting cosy on a chilly evening.

‘In a world where everything is fast and chaotic, snuggling up in a traditional wool blanket encourages you to slow down and find time for yourself. Add a pair of wool socks and a scented candle – the latter soon to be added to the range – and you have the perfect cosy package.’

Historic mills in Britain and Sweden

All Country Mouse’s high-quality wool blankets and throws are woven using traditional methods. The company works with historic mills in Britain and Sweden, which have been producing textiles – from the raw fleece to the finished product – for several hundred years.
