Phoenix Consortia, a group of specialist companies in the UK refurbishment market, is celebrating the success of its award-winning apprentice roofer Mo Fahran, who has become the first apprentice in the country to undertake Roofer End Point Assessment under the new L2 apprenticeship standard, setting the benchmark for industry.
This follows Mo’s 2021 award wins which include the prestigious Young Roofer of the Year from the NFRC (National Federation of Roofing Contractors), and Apprentice of the Year in Construction and Property, in the Greater Birmingham apprenticeship awards.
Mo has faced challenges during his apprenticeship training, including the UK lockdown at the end of March 2020 that led to him not being able to have face-to-face training with his tutors and peers – as well as missed time onsite due to the first and second UK lockdowns and Covid 19. Despite this, Mo has excelled in his field and is the first apprentice to pass the new Roofer L2 Standard in the UK.
Mo said: “I started on the Juniper Training Building Futures pathway in August 2019, with ambitions of a career in construction, and completed the six-month Introduction to Construction course to gain my CSCS card, and other essential industry qualifications. I then started a work placement with Phoenix Consortia, and was then delighted to be offered an apprenticeship, which I started at the beginning of March 2020. I’m so happy in this role and about the fact I have achieved this new standard. I’m really grateful to Juniper for the training I’ve received and to Phoenix for the opportunity to progress in this trade.”
Kate Whatley, from Phoenix Consortium, added: “We partnered with Juniper as we saw their vision to be a long term partner of the roofing industry, assisting in ensuring the roofing sector continues to thrive by providing young people with the opportunity to gain an insight into the sector, and to generate a pipeline of competent workers for the future. The progress that’s been made is truly amazing and our thanks go to the Building Futures Team of Juniper Training Ltd who have guided, supported and mentored Mo to become the roofer he is today, alongside our fantastic site teams who help him day in, day out. It’s such a great achievement for Juniper in becoming the first training provider to have an apprentice undergo EPA in the UK.
“Our wholehearted thanks also goes to the industry for supporting us throughout our training journey and helping our vision become a reality. Mo’s end point assessor highlighted Mo’s ability to work safely, his exceptional tool skills and knowledge, his respectful manner and thirst for knowledge and self-improvement. He is great testament to this partnership working and we’re so incredibly proud of him.”
