Water Direct, an Essex-based provider of alternative and emergency-assured quality water supply services, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2023 Essex Countywide Business Awards. The Growing Business of the Year category recognises organisations that have demonstrated substantial growth within the past 12 months.
From its Earls Colne headquarters, Water Direct supports a diverse range of sectors across the UK and is renowned for its role as the preferred partner for emergency and planned alternative water supply (AWS) for UK water retailers and wholesalers.
The award submission highlighted Water Direct’s significant investments in capability, fleet, and partnerships over the last three years, which have contributed to its unprecedented growth and operational success. During December 2022 alone, Water Direct delivered more emergency water tankers in one month than the whole of 2017, covering one million road miles and delivering 150 million litres of water.
As well as its ongoing multi-million-pound investment in fleet and operational capacity, Water Direct has established and manages the UK’s only Nationwide Bottled Water Bank. This quality-assured stock of millions of litres of bottled drinking water, strategically located in over 20 locations throughout the UK, is readily available for emergency use. In response to increasing demand, this supply was expanded by 430% in 2022, resulting in the delivery of 19 million bottles of water to support households and businesses that had lost water supply.

For over 20 years the Essex County Countywide Business Awards has been a highly anticipated annual event that celebrates the achievements of Essex-based businesses. The winners of the 2023 awards will be announced on Friday 27th October during a prestigious black-tie dinner at Braxted Park, Essex.
