Finalists revealed for the Midlands Family Business Awards 2024

The Midlands Family Business Awards 2024, which celebrate family businesses across the East and West Midlands, has revealed this years’ shortlist.

After a record number of entries, 50+ family businesses from around the Midlands have been shortlisted across nine categories including Sustainability, Property & Construction Excellence, Digital & Tech Innovation, Service Excellence, Young Director and Employer of the Year, as well as Best Small Business, Fastest Growing and the much-coveted Family Business of the Year.

Charlotte Perkins, Group Managing Director of The Wilson Organisation said: “The standard of entries has been exceptionally high this year and we are so pleased that so many family businesses have taken the time to showcase their achievements. We received such strong entries in Best Small Family Business and Service Excellence categories that we’ve taken the decision to shortlist extra finalists, for the first time ever.”

The Best Small Family Business category shortlist, sponsored by metal recycling and waste management specialist Ward, includes Derby venue finding service ACE Bookings, Spalding’s luxury Freckleface Home Fragrance, Burton based Hardy Signs, North Hykeham manufacturer, Jointine Products, Cotgrave driving agency Route4 Solutions, Staffordshire based SMART Balustrades and Stourbridge construction hire firm, Will Hire.

Among the finalists for Fastest Growing Family Business, sponsored by PwC, are Loughborough based Adey Steel Group, baby goods business from Burton-Upon-Trent Bambino’s & Beyond, live-in care agency and Quality Life UK from Kegworth. Freckleface Home Fragrance made the shortlist for the second time. Derby property investment firm The Berry Group, were also fastest growing finalists and made the cut in the property category too, while Heanor based WB Power Services are finalists in this and the overall Family Business of the Year.

Specialist providers of HR, payroll and finance software and services, MHR, were winners of the Family Business of the Year in 2023 and are main sponsors for this years’ celebration. MHR Chairman, Jessica Mills, comments: “We’re incredibly proud to be a family business, and as we enter our 40th anniversary it’s a pleasure to be working with The Wilson Organisation to acknowledge the achievements of other family businesses in the region large and small, across multiple sectors. The judges will have their work cut out trying to select just one winner from each category.”

Organised by third generation family business, The Wilson Organisation, which specialises in insurance and financial services and supported by a range of high-profile sponsors, the Midlands Family Business Awards gives family businesses of all sizes, from all sectors, the opportunity to recognised for the huge contribution they make to the region.

The non-profit awards are made possible through a range of sponsors. Alongside MHR is family business community Family Business Futures, also created by founders Wilson’s; creative agency Stencil; Buckles Solicitors; professional services firm PwC; property maintenance business, The Handy Family Company; legal advisers Shakespeare Martineau; home care and mobility services provider, Premier Community and Streets Chartered Accountants.

All the shortlisted businesses are now eligible for the People’s Choice’ award which is determined by a public vote throughout September.

The finalists’ celebration event will take place on Thursday 16th May at The Carriage Hall, giving the successful shortlisted businesses an opportunity to network with sponsors and reflect on their achievements.

The finalists in each category will meet with their judging panels during June. Winners will be revealed in an Award Ceremony on 3 October 2024 at Athena in Leicester.

 The Awards is a not-for-profit initiative. All proceeds from the Awards will go to charities in our region supporting our communities and young enterprise.
