A new all-through school on the Oakley Grove housing estate has been officially named after a huge public vote.

Stowe Valley Multi Academy Trust, which runs the Outstanding rated Southam College as well as Southam Primary – listed in the Sunday Times top primary schools for three years in a row – wanted the local community to choose the name of its new 4-16 primary and secondary school on Oakley Wood Road.

Hundreds of responses were received, some of which the trust said were more adventurous than others! However, the overwhelming favourite was “Oakley School” with over 60 per cent of the total vote.

Ranjit Samra, Chief Executive Officer of Stowe Valley Multi Academy Trust, which has welcomed Oakley School into its portfolio, said: “We wanted the local community to feel that this their school from its very inception and what better way to do this than to get them to choose its name.

“The school will be a cornerstone of the area for many decades to come and we want the community to play a key role in shaping its ethos and culture. Our vision is for this to be a school of the community, for the community.

“We want our young people to have wonderful memorable experiences at the school, and give them the skills and confidence to be kind, confident, resilient young people, who can achieve any goal and shape the world around them. In the next 12 months we will be recruiting leaders who passionately believe in this ethos and who can nurture the talent that exists within every child.”

Parents and carers interested in applying to Oakley School can find out more about the trust’s exciting plans at a number of information evenings over the coming month.

The first of these is being held today (Tuesday September 13) from 6.30-7.30pm at Myton School, Myton Road, Warwick: CV34 6PJ. The next is on Thursday September 29, from 9.30am–11am at Southam College on Welsh Road West, Southam, Warwickshire: CV470JW, and the third is on Wednesday October 12, from 6.30pm–7.30pm at Myton School.

Families who want to apply for a place for the first cohort of Oakley School students can do so through the normal admissions process.

There is no catchment area for the school at the present time and anyone who wants their child to start at the school is encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to pupils living closest to the location of the school on Oakley Wood Road.
