Time for a virtual cuppa

Sarah Banks

Fancy a virtual cuppa? Businesswoman Sarah Banks from Stanley Common is inviting people to take part in a virtual cuppa and receive business advice whilst also supporting Dementia UK, a cause that is close to her heart after she her Grandmother was affected by the devastating disease.

As March begins it marks the start of Time for a Cuppa week (1st until 8th March), an initiative from Dementia UK to raise money and awareness of the effects of dementia.  Sarah who owns online business consultancy Banks’ Business Solutions is going to provide online power hours for business owners and is asking those who book one of the limited sessions to donate to Dementia UK.  The sessions can be used for a number of things including getting general tips on working with a freelancer, finding a freelancer or to discuss specific issues with technology and growing their business online.

Sarah whose Nan was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia in February 2005 said: ” When Nan was diagnosed it came as a shock and I wasn’t sure what her prognosis would be.  Over the next few years, I watched my Nan become a different person-she slowly started to forget small things, wouldn’t know who I was, talked about people from the past but despite this she was still the same caring lady I had always loved.

“One of the hardest parts was when she forgot that my uncle had died-I would have to explain to her that he had died and she would grieve for 10minutes before forgetting again.

“I travelled back and forwards from Derbyshire to Birmingham regularly to spend time with her which gave me lots of time to find out more about her and her life”

After five years of living with Dementia Sarah’s grandmother sadly passed away in February 2010 six weeks after her granddad died.

Sarah continued “Nan wasn’t fully aware that granddad had passed and I was heartbroken to lose them both. However I was also glad that her suffering was over. Watching someone you love deteriorate and no longer recognise you is one of the cruellest things that can happen.  This is one of the reasons I want to support Dementia UK and help them to continue research for all forms of Dementia. Time for a cuppa will help me to support more business owners as well as raising money and awareness of the condition.”
