A local primary school and nursery in Thorpe-le-Soken, Clacton, held a special careers day inviting pupils to speak to a range of industry experts about their job roles and individual career paths.
Rolph Church of England Primary School and Nursery recently held a careers day for pupils across Key Stage One and Two. The school invited speakers from a variety of job fields to set up stalls and speak to the children about what their jobs involve and which qualifications they’d need if they wanted to follow in their footsteps.
Staff at Rolph C of E Primary and Nursery were keen to give pupils the opportunity to learn more about the vast range of jobs available to them when they grow older, both locally and in the wider world. Guest speakers included a Commercial Manager at Just Eat, an engineer in the motorsport industry, and a trainee Magistrate. Children were also invited to speak to employees from the environmental health industry and the Army, as well as a physiotherapist, an actor and a baker.
Nikki Emrich, Head of School at Rolph Church of England Primary School and Nursery said; “We were exceptionally fortunate to have so many people volunteer to support our career day. We not only had parent volunteers but support from our local community, including some ex-pupils of the school. It’s exciting to see what our pupils will become when they go out into the world. Whatever it is we know that they will all go on to achieve their own unique potential”.
Children in Key Stage One were visited by members of the police service, the fire service and a local farmer, all of whom discussed what they do to help the community and their experiences in each industry.
Connor Nicolson, guest speaker from Galloper Wind Farms, said; “I must say that we very much enjoyed our time with the pupils at Rolph. It’s great to see their interest in all careers and their knowledge of renewable energy. I think this is the first time the team at Galloper has pitched a careers fair type stall to primary school age children and we’ve very pleased with how it went!”
