A group of formerly homeless people are set to overcome various obstacles in a five-mile muddy fundraiser to support The Hospice of St Francis.
The team includes Rob, Curtis, Kieran, Rebecca, and Mark who have all experienced homelessness and are now being supported by local charity Emmaus Hertfordshire.
Returning on Sunday 13 October to Ashbridge House, the Mud Pack Challenge will see hundreds of people of all fitness levels conquer five or 10 miles of tricky obstacles and mountains of mud. All money raised will go towards the Hospice of St Francis, which provides support to those dealing with serious illnesses.
As well as providing a home for as long as needed and the opportunity to gain new skills in its social enterprise, Emmaus encourages the people it supports to take part in local fundraising events and projects to show them that they have the capability to help others.
Also joining the team for the challenge is Emmaus Hertfordshire’s Business Development Manager, Jennifer Hewson, who said: “The combination of a stable living environment, work experience opportunities and the chance to make a difference to a local community is key to helping the people we support to regain any lost self-esteem and dignity from being homeless.
“We have done several mud runs for hospices over the years and it is always a fantastic way to raise money for a local cause while boosting our fitness. We’re all looking forward to the challenge and hope to meet our fundraising target of £250.”
