Derby doughnut firm Project D were in the swim after receiving an Olympic sized order from gold medallist Adam Peaty to celebrate his homecoming from Tokyo.
Olympic champion swimmer Adam Peaty posted a picture of himself on Instagram holding two of the firm’s tailor-made mega doughnuts with the caption “Eating my weight in Project Doughnut”.
The 26-year-old, who picked up two gold medals and a silver in the breast-stroke at Tokyo 2020 last month, were ordered by Adam’s family for a party held in his honour over the weekend.
Both the super-sized doughnuts had been given a special Olympic theme to celebrate his success, with one decorated as a gold medal and the other finished with blue icing to resemble water.
Despite a further 80 doughnuts being ordered for the party, there is no danger of Adam Peaty putting on weight – he will soon be in the unfamiliar surroundings of a dance studio as he prepares to appear in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, which begins on BBC1 next month.
Jacob Watts, Operations Director of Project D said: “It’s amazing to think that Adam Peaty, a double Olympic gold-winning champion and the fastest swimmer in the world, is a fan of our doughnuts.
“Like many others, we watched and celebrated his achievements out in Tokyo, so it was an absolute privilege to receive the order for his homecoming party and we were thrilled to create the Olympic themed mega-doughnuts especially for him.
“I can’t say we’re your typical Strictly fans, but we’ll certainly be paying attention to how he gets on. Maybe we’ll even create a special glitter-ball themed doughnut if he wins that too.”
Project D is an artisan doughnut bakery based in Spondon, Derby. They operate a local and nationwide delivery service alongside pop-up shops which are announced on their social media channels and website.
The company has been shortlisted for a string of awards and is planning to expand its operation further by adding a mezzanine floor to the bakery.
