The backbone of the Black Country, the industrial industry we call it and Elite Centre for Manufacturing Skills are a part of it.
The Elite Centre for Manufacturing Skills (ECMS) is an employer-led training facility for the Black Country, designed to enhance productivity in the region’s high value manufacturing sector.
Building on the region’s renowned industrial heritage, ECMS is determined to drive economic growth in the Black Country – and beyond – by providing specialist training to upskill the current and future workforce, helping to close skills gaps identified by employers.
With two fantastic sites boasting state of the art facilities ECMS supports businesses in the manufacturing industry offering room hire for commercial and research purposes. Not only this there is also several great training and skills development courses, helping employers grow the best talent in the region.
The ECMS Hub located on the regenerated Brownfield site in Wolverhampton is a two storey office, home to a metallurgy lab and a number of meeting, boardrooms and exhibition areas. The former derelict transport building on the former Springfield Brewery site, owned by the University of Wolverhampton, will also soon be home to the School of Architecture and Built Environment.
The spoke in Dudley Port also known as The National Foundry Training Centre is a two storey training workshop and office block on the existing footprint of a former industrial building on the Thomas Dudley Duport Ltd site, boasting high spec machinery and work areas.
ECMS continue to support the region to increase the relatively low levels of employer investment in skills in Black Country manufacturing, offering affordable ‘bite sized’ manufacturing specific management/leadership & project management training in affordable chunks that will encourage SMEs to invest to improve their performance and productivity. This training will help multi-skill employees, which boosts productivity, continuing to develop the region’s biggest industry.

Hire Our Facilities
The ECMS runs the UK’s only National Foundry Training Centre based in Tipton. This is currently used by many companies for training, also the base for training Dudley College Foundry Technician Apprenticeships that are delivered and supported by Foundry Training Services and The Institute of Cast Metals Engineers.
Hiring our facilities will mean that your organisation will have access to state of the art manufacturing and engineering facilities training rooms, metallurgy and metrology labs, as well as support from technicians.
