L-R: Mike Chinn and Matt Weston

The founders of leading video and animation company Stone’s Throw Media are seeing double after being named finalists for two leading regional business awards.

Mike Chinn and Matt Weston are in the running for the young leader and professional services categories at the 2021 West Midlands Leadership Awards, organised by regional news website Business Desk.

They hope to be carrying home two trophies when the winners are announced on July 9 in a ceremony at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel in Birmingham.

Organiser Business Desk West Midlands said: “The event brings togethers people from across the business community and is a great celebration of the achievements of the past year, which we look forward to sharing.”

Launched in 2011, Stone’s Throw employs eight staff and is based on Wolverhampton Science Park. Its clients include Redrow, Wolves, JLR, the University of Wolverhampton and university accommodation provider Student Roost.

Mike Chinn said: “After a challenging year dominated by the Covid-19 pandemic, it is pleasing to be named as finalists in these awards. Stone’s Throw Media has always been a team effort so through these nominations we are delighted to represent everyone who has pulled together within the company over the last 12 months.”

Matt Weston said: “As Stone’s Throw Media is celebrating its 10th anniversary it is great to be recognised as finalists for such prestigious awards. We have always been proud to work in the West Midlands, making it the home of our operations from the start, which makes it a thrill to be included in awards aimed at celebrating the best of the entire region.”

The company’s highlights over the last 12 months include broadcasting the digital opening ceremony of the new Springfield Brewery learning centre in Wolverhampton, delivered online through video channels due to Covid restrictions, which saw Government representatives and West Midlands Mayor Andy Street among those to take part through web linkups.

They have also delivered videos for the likes of Redrow and Student Roost despite the social distancing measures, produced a digital staff awards ceremony for the University of Wolverhampton and provided the animations for the Compton Care campaign to fundraise at Christmas.
