Our annual walk has unfortunately had to be cancelled and this leaves us with a huge fundraising gap that helps us in our continual provision of services to help young people out of homelessness.
It also means that hundreds of our supporters are unable to take part in one of our best attended and most enjoyable events.
But worry not, we’re setting up a new challenge that you can do from the comfort of your own home and during your daily exercise.
The route to Santiago dates back to the early 9th century with the discovery of the tomb of the evangelical apostle St James in Galicia. Since then the cathedral has become a major pilgrimage route and last year attracted more than 260,000 people.
We’re asking you to Step Up and join us (in teams of up to five people) and register through our website.
For just £10 per person (but please, please try and raise some sponsorship money for our vital work too if possible), you can help us and have great fun too, while keeping fit.
Work colleagues or family members can set up in competition with each other or you can just take it all in at your own pace.
The route is a total of 743kms and we’re allowing up to 6 weeks to complete the challenge.
Simply register by clicking here and help us to help young people avoid homelessness in this most difficult of times, thank you.
Your guide to the Step Up Challenge
The Camino De Santiago is 743km long! That’s a whopping 965,900 steps, or there about, and that’s why your team will be key in helping you go the distance!
Don’t forget you can still exercise once a day at the moment outside your home and you should be staying active as much as you can, while observing social distancing rules of course! Don’t worry though if the lockdown gets even stricter, there are still ways you can complete the challenge without ever leaving your home. In fact, we recommend you stay home as much as you can anyway… stay home and stay safe!
Here’s a guide to the Step Up challenge :)..
| Number of team members | How many steps per day each | How can you do it? |
| Just you | Woah! That’s 23,000 steps a day! | You’ll need a big garden and lots of energy. Remember you need to stay at home as much as possible, so if you live in a mansion or have a treadmill at home then you might make it! |
| Team of 2 | 11,500 steps a day. | You’ll both need gardens and plenty of space to do exercise videos and laps. Doable if you’ve got the time and space at home. |
| Team of 3 | 7,667 steps a day. | You’ll need to do plenty of dancing and walking around your home and garden as much as possible. Don’t forget to keep moving while you wash the pots. |
| Team of 4 | 5,750 steps a day. | Keep moving while you watch the telly, go up and down your stairs as much as you can and never stop moving when you’re cleaning. |
| Team of 5 | 4,600 steps a day. | Get the hoover out every day, take things upstairs one at a time. Dance around the kitchen and do lots of star jumps every morning to start your day. |
