Sports travel firm and River Thames specialists hit £5m turnover in time for 20 year celebrations

In 2020, Directors Tom and Pete Warsop – along with a team of expert staff – were facing a very uncertain future when their luxury travel businesses were severely affected due to the impact of Covid-19.

All revenue for Newcastle-under-Lyme based Luxury Sports Tours, along with Thames Cruises London, was wiped out as soon as the pandemic struck in March 2020. A milestone target set in early 2019 to reach a combined turnover of £5m for the financial year was abandoned leaving the directors rallying round to ensure a future for their staff and the two firms

Now, two years later they are delighted to announce their target has been met.

Managing Director Pete Warsop said: “When the pandemic hit we were faced with masses of cancellations, our revenue was non-existent and we were tasked with refunding more than £600,000 to customers.

“This was without a doubt a huge blow and we had to do what we could at the time. Just like everybody else, we had never experienced anything like it before. But now, and due to the absolutely fantastic team we have, we have reached that £5m target we set years back – and it is great to achieve this as we celebrate our 20th year in business with everyone.

“We could not have done this without the hard working staff members we have – who have all been brilliant and reaching such a big milestone is testament to the expertise we have right through the business. At each event our staff are on hand to assist our customers – who we also wholeheartedly
thank for supporting us all of these years.

“The pandemic hit a lot of businesses hard, especially in the travel and leisure industries, and we are so pleased to now say we are on the right path in moving forward.”

Since launching Luxury Sports Tours 20 years ago, with the thames cruises division introduced shortly after, the experts have tailored all kinds of sporting breaks for customers. Trips to some of the most prestigious events, such as The Masters, The Ryder Cup, Wimbledon and world-title Boxing matches have all be provided.

In the last year Thames Cruises London has arranged 160 private charters with more than 9000 people enjoying shared dining cruises and further expansion plans are in place.

“We are consistently looking at ways to add to our services and provide what our customers want,” added Pete.

“We are adding to our sports offering as well as looking to acquire our own vessel for the Thames River Cruises. As we look ahead to the next 20 years we are also expanding our Privilege Club again and our dedicated all inclusive holiday website – Alihoco – to cater for the huge demand of UK
travellers who enjoy all inclusive holidays each year.”
