A vet at a leading Somerset veterinary referral centre is toasting exam success which has seen him reach the top tier of his profession.

Dr David Haine, head of surgery at Linnaeus-owned Cave Veterinary Specialists near Wellington, has successfully passed the rigorous ECVS diploma exams to become an EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery.

David, who oversees soft tissue surgical care and orthopaedics at Cave, said: “I’m thrilled to join this select group of professionals.

“The exams were challenging, but now having five surgical specialists allows the Cave surgical team to further offer specialised surgical care and expand treatment options for animals in the South West.”

David graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2013, honing his skills in a small animal general practice for four years before pursuing a specialised surgical residency at DWR Veterinary Specialists in Cambridgeshire.

In 2022, David moved back to Devon and enjoys exploring the rolling hills of Devon on his bike and spending quality time with his young family.

Will McFadzean, clinical director at Cave, said: “This is a huge achievement and the culmination of many years of dedication and hard work.

“I look forward to working alongside David to bring his ideas for the surgery team to fruition.”
