Christmas only really begins once the tractor run is done – so say supporters of a popular annual event which brings a sea of colour to the streets of Shrewsbury.
The Shropshire Young Farmers’ Illuminated Tractor Run took place on Sunday (December 14), with dozens of festive tractors travelling around the town from Shrewsbury Livestock Market.
The parade was supported by lawyers from Lanyon Bowdler, who said they were delighted to sponsor the event for the first time.
Amy Burgoyne, of the firm’s personal injury team, was at the head of the procession in the cab of her father’s tractor and said it was a great experience.
“My sister Sophie and I both work for Lanyon Bowdler, and being from a farming family we were really happy when the firm decided to sponsor the tractor run,” she said.
“I always think the illuminated tractor run marks the beginning of Christmas, and is a really nice way of bringing the farming community together to spread some festive cheer, as well as raising money for charity.
“I somehow got talked into dressing up as ‘LB Bear’, the Lanyon Bowdler mascot, which prompted lots of smiles as we drove around Shrewsbury, and it was all good fun.”

“Anyone from a farming background like me will have fond memories of the Christmas tractor runs which take place across the county every year,” he said.

“It was a very well attended event and I know the effort in lighting and decorating so many tractors was appreciated by everyone who saw them around Shrewsbury on Sunday evening.”
