With this year’s Science Week theme being ‘connection to science’, Gootopia aim to foster an interest in STEM fields for the younger generations. They want to encourage critical thinking, problem-solving skills and ultimately, cultivate a passion for a lifelong passion for science.

Only 22% of women still only make up the total core STEM workforce. Pairing that statistic with the upcoming International Women’s Day (IWD) in March, this is the perfect opportunity to encourage the next generation of female STEM workers.

Science Week offers a unique opportunity to delve into the world of science through various engaging activities and experiments. It serves as a platform for hands-on learning experiences that spark curiosity and cultivate a deeper understanding of scientific principles.

By participating in Science Week, children not only gain exposure to different branches of science but also develop essential skills such as critical thinking, observation, and analysis, as well as interpersonal and social skills as they have to work with their classmates to create giant slime.

“At Gootopia science is at the heart of what we do, and we see first hand just how much kids love each stage of the process of making slime exactly as they like it. Young people can come to Gootoopia, experiment, learn about scientific processes, and get hands-on with science in a safe, fun and engaging way. By giving kids a chance to see science in action, I really hope we’re doing our bit to encourage the next generation of scientists!” – Chris Saville, Co-Founder.

What to Expect:

Gootopia’s slime science workshops are great for groups from Early Years through to Year 6, and tie into the KS1 or KS2 science syllabus.

They are also able to create workshops for specific groups, for example, SEN children with specific needs.

Through fun, hands-on learning, children learn about slime, its chemical properties and how it can be used to explore issues around the material world.

Each child gets to experiment and create their own slime (which they take away), and children work together in a team to create their own giant slime.

Gootopia is also a great treat for children and Gootopia can offer our regular Original or Glow Slime workshop which is not tied into the school curriculum but covers pop-science.

You are welcome to bring groups of up to 30 children to their venue. Alternatively, Gootopia also offers a mobile School Slime Science service and can come to you.

Extra pupils can be added to your package for £15 per pupil.

Important: Children must always be accompanied by a responsible adult who is fully responsible for the child’s supervision and safety at these times. Gootopia staff are not liable for child supervision. Responsible adults (teachers, teaching staff etc) should ensure children behave appropriately. Disruptive behaviour may lead to being asked to leave to preserve a positive environment for all.

Why Science Workshops?

Science Workshops offer a unique and engaging opportunity for children to explore the fascinating world of science through hands-on experiments and activities. By participating, children not only learn about scientific concepts and properties of materials like slime but also develop important skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

The workshop provides a fun and interactive environment where children can unleash their creativity, ask questions, and actively participate in the learning process. Additionally, attending the workshop supports the promotion of STEM education and helps inspire curiosity and a love for science in young minds, preparing them for future success and innovation.
