SBS winner taking on London Marathon

Frances Williams
A Burton-based founder has developed a new way to support children with anxiety after her own daughter was left unable to leave the house following the Covid lockdowns.
Frances Williams created The Calmness Crew after watching her daughter experience severe anxiety, including panic attacks triggered by everyday situations such as sitting in a stationary car.
What began as a series of nightly coping techniques has since been developed into tactile plush toys that guide children through breathing, grounding and reassurance exercises in real time.
The story comes at a time when children’s mental health remains under significant pressure, with many families still facing long waits for support.
Frances won the SBS award last June and has now been named a regional finalist in the UK StartUp Awards 2026, recognising both the innovation and impact of the product.
She is also preparing to run the London Marathon, using the moment to raise awareness of children’s mental health and fundraise for Place2Be.
I thought this might be of interest given the ongoing conversation around post-pandemic anxiety and accessible support for families.
