The season of goodwill is firmly upon us and there’s friendship in the air, with two stallholders at Birmingham’s alternative Christmas market, City Social, teaming up to serve festive cheer. Roastie Toastie and Asha’s are joining forces for the market’s final week to dish up a fusion feast: Asha’s Tikka dished up in a Roastie Toastie.
The two independent food-vendors have brought two of Birmingham’s best-loved cuisines together for an exclusive collaboration. Following the traditional Roastie Toastie approach, which sees a Sunday roast with all the trimmings, slapped between two fat slices of toast, this hybrid sandwich substitutes the filling for Asha’s award-winning curry.
Affectionately termed the ‘Chicken Tikka Toastie’, it is warming, wholesome, and quintessentially ‘Brummie’. The transcontinental dish is even served up with an option of mint or chilli garlic sauces, as the perfect substitute for Little Nan’s gravy.
Matt Elson, the man behind the Roastie Toastie, commented: “We are thrilled to be teaming up with our fellow stallholder, Asha’s! It’s exciting to be bringing these two tastes together for the final week of City Social and working alongside another independent in Birmingham to create something new, different, and – most importantly – delicious!”
This ultimate comfort food is perfect for a cold winter’s night and is already the talk of the town at City Social. The alternative market, which champions independent makers and small businesses, is filling Suffolk Street Queensway underpass with festive cheer, all the way up until 21 December.
Nouman Farooqui, the GM at Asha’s, also added:“It’s been great to be part of the City Social line-up this year and to conclude this experience with this one-off collaboration has truly been the icing on the cake… or rather, the filling in the toastie! We’ve loved working with the Roastie Toastie team on this and we hope everyone enjoys the ‘Chicken Tikka Toastie’ as much as we do.”
