A village in Powys has had a huge cash injection to fund local projects thanks to a company working there.
SWG Group, which has been working to construct the new Abermule Business Park for Powys County Council, has handed over money for new gym equipment at Abermule School and an inclusive play space for children of all ages and disabilities in the village.
The donations are part of the company’s community benefit scheme, which sees it donating to local organisations in the areas their projects are taking place.
Councillor Gareth Pugh, County Councillor for the Dolforwyn ward, said the £1,000 donation to Abermule Community Council will help to create a great outdoor play environment.
He said: “I am very pleased to receive this kind contribution from SWG, which will go towards a recreational facility in Abermule for children of all abilities.
“On behalf of Abermule Community Council I’d like to thank SWG very much.”
SWG Group, based in Powys, also gave £450 and a hamper as a raffle prize to the Friends of Abermule – which is currently raising money for new gym equipment at the village school.
Jayne Harrison, Head of Abermule School, said: “We are so grateful for this contribution, we can now buy some much needed gymnastics equipment.
“All the children will be able to benefit from this. Here at Abermule School we promote good well being through physical activity.”
The Friends are drawing a raffle on July 14 to raise further funds and you can buy a £2.50 ticket by emailing 2022foas@gmail.com.
All details of prizes can be found on the Facebook page Friends of Abermule School.
Jacqui Gough, Director at SWG Group, said: “It is very important to us to give back to the communities where we work.
“We love to help out in any way we can and there are groups in need across Powys and Shropshire, so wherever we work we look to benefit the community nearby.
“We are pleased to have been able to make a difference to these two groups in the village and help create important facilities for children across Abermule.”
The Business Park has seen the creation of nine business units which provide flexible options for start-up businesses and local companies, a Powys County Council initiative to boost economic development in the area and improve local employment prospects.
It also used the latest renewable and low carbon energy sources as well as encouraging active travel by capitalising on transport infrastructure.
