Pallet-Track members join forces as Mobile People Powered Logistics buys PDX Logistics

An established and expanding Midlands-based supply chain business is spreading its national footprint with the acquisition of Haddenham-based PDX Logistics, with the express aim of growing both businesses.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Mobile People Powered Logistics completed the purchase of PDX at the end of December after the retirement of its former Managing Director, Geoff Morgan.

The acquisition is part of its strategic investment plan that will see PDX double in size, by moving from a £2.4 million turnover business to a £5 million enterprise in the next few years.

The two successful businesses – which are both part of the award-winning Wolverhampton-based Pallet-Track network – will start working together from early 2020, with Mobile planning to invest more than £500,000 in the Buckinghamshire company, including a new IT system and upgraded vehicles.

“This is part of a buy and build strategy to grow the business and revenue,” said Matthew Marriott, managing director of Mobile People Powered Logistics.

“We have grown within Birmingham and the West Midlands, so part of the strategy is to spread the footprint of the business which is why acquiring PDX, a fellow member of the Pallet-Track network, works well for us on so many levels. It shares the same values and ethos, there is no learning curve and we are geographically not far away.

“It is not one-way traffic, either, as there are so many synergies between the businesses. PDX also has an extensive 3PL and warehouse offering which will be perfect to integrate into the Mobile business.”

Both businesses will operate under their separate brands for the foreseeable future, but the deal, which took two years to complete, will ultimately result in the PDX name disappearing as the business moves forward under the Mobile banner.

Mobile People Powered Logistics joined the Pallet-Track network in July 2015 and inputted seven pallets on its first night – a figure which has grown to 13,000 pallets per month, making it one of the largest independent network operators in Birmingham.

Further growth is planned as the company, which was established in 1979 as Mobile Freight Services and rebranded as Mobile People Powered Logistics in 2016, looks for other acquisition targets.

Mobile, which has reported a staggering 400 per cent growth over the last five years, currently employs around 80 people and expects this figure to grow.

Matthew Marriott said: “The business has gone from strength to strength due to a complete change in culture over the last few years, where we have grown the network distribution business and concentrated on contract haulage and distribution.

“Our growth has been achieved by making sure the client has a strong and stable solution they can be confident won’t fail. That’s why we concentrate all our efforts into delivery quality and driver performance rather than being driven by volumes and price.”
