Handmade dining table makers, Grain and Frame, weren’t sure to laugh or cry when all their hard work creating a bespoke dining table was rejected by a customer on the basis of a very unfortunate, but natural, knot.
Sam and Rhys, the company’s directors, didn’t notice the uncanny resemblance the knot had to a penis until they were assembling the table in the customer’s house. The customer genuinely thought it might have been etched there on purpose due to the intricate detail that the shape had.
Nonetheless, the lads saw the funny side and decided to put misfortune to a good cause.
The table will be raffled at £2 a ticket and all the money raised will hopefully go to you if you’re interested? These tables typically retail at £700-£900 so could be a bargain for whoever wins it but hoping to raise much more obviously.
Rhys, one of the Directors, knows only too well how valuable these charities are as one of his friends was diagnosed with testicular cancer not too long ago which is why they’ve decided to go down this route.
Company Story
We’re both from the West Midlands and have grown up in Sandwell, so whilst we serve customers nationwide, we’re really proud that we now have a business that is thriving in the Sandwell borough.
We set up the company in February 2019 and have gone from strength to strength. We originally started selling dining tables but we’ve now extended our product offering to also include dining chairs, console tables and garden tables, as well as offering our customers the opportunity to put in custom orders – if you can draw it, we can make it.
We started the company on a shared belief that if you combine quality raw materials with skilled craftsmanship, you can create a beautiful piece of furniture.
Sam – My background is in design, so attention to detail is key. Focusing on the finer details is vital to ensure a quality build that will stand the test of time. I make sure every detail is looked at in the design stage to ensure our customers always receive a stylish, high-quality piece of furniture they
can be proud of in their home. We’re always looking at boundaries to create pieces that are not only functional in their setting, but that looks great too.
Rhys – With a background in furniture making and a passion for woodwork, there’s nothing I love more than seeing our products being built from start to finish. For me, the key is combining expert craftsmanship with quality materials – the end result is just exceptional. At Grain and Frame, we pride ourselves on only using the highest quality raw materials for our products to create truly unique pieces that simply let the furniture speak for itself
