Students from North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) are celebrating outstanding success at the WorldSkills UK National Finals, held in Cardiff last week.
More than 400 competitors battled it out in over 40 skill areas – spanning everything from digital technologies, engineering and advanced manufacturing to hospitality, creative industries and health sciences. Competing in two days of rigorous challenges, the finalists demonstrated impressive technical expertise, innovation and professionalism – attributes that are highly sought after by today’s employers.
NWSLC students achieved exceptional results across multiple categories, the college’s winners included:
Skills winners:
- Gold – Digital Media Production: Brett Harrison, Ethan Woolstencroft, Jack Littlejones and Benjamin Walton.
- Highly Commended – SFX Makeup and Hair for Film and TV: Leoni Wilson.
Foundation Skills winners:
- Gold – Hairdressing Foundation Skills: Sawda Khalifa.
- Highly Commended – Hairdressing Foundation Skills: Tigerlily Lloyd.
- Silver – Foundation Skills Catering: Mollie Clark.
- Bronze – Foundation Skills Health and Social Care: Sophie McNally.
As a result of these achievements, NWSLC has ranked second in the national league table for Foundation Skills and joint eighth overall at the National Finals, securing its place among the top 10 performing organisations in the UK.

WorldSkills UK aims to raise standards in technical education through competition-based training, helping to boost employability, close skills gaps and promote excellence across industries. Top-performing medallists will go on to represent the UK at the international WorldSkills competition in Japan in 2028.
