North west veterinary neurology specialist joins elite fellowship

Luca Motta from Northwest Veterinary Specialists has been admitted to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Fellowship for 2023

A renowned vet at one of the north-west’s leading small animal hospitals has been recognised by his peers for his outstanding contribution to the veterinary profession.

Luca Motta, head of neurology at Linnaeus-owned Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) in Runcorn, has just been admitted to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Fellowship for 2023.

Luca, who has an interest in spinal cord injuries, neurosurgery and advanced diagnostic imaging, was admitted for his meritorious contributions to clinical practice.

The Fellowship aims to advance veterinary standards by providing a resource of independent knowledge to the profession.

To be admitted, Luca had to highlight various aspects of his work and achievements to the RCVS, which included his projects covering spinal cord injuries in dogs, for scrutiny by his fellow professionals.

Luca said: “It’s a great honour to be admitted to the RCVS Fellowship and be amongst the best of the veterinary profession.

“For NWVS it is further testament of the support they provide all team members to let them flourish and pursue their particular veterinary interests, which ultimately benefits patients with a higher level of service.”

Luca was among the pioneering veterinary neurologists in the UK to utilise the neurosurgical microscope for performing complex spinal and brain surgeries. He has also been actively involved in original research and is the author and co-author of several publications.

NWVS is one of the UK’s leading specialist-led animal hospitals. It offers care in anaesthesia and analgesia, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology, orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery.
