New hires bolster growing Nottingham communications agency

L-R: Marketing Manager, Jodie Heginbotham and Operations Manager, Jo Elliott

A Nottingham-based communications agency has success in its sights this year after celebrating a period of exciting growth with two new team appointments.

The Effective English Company, which provides an extra pair of hands to busy communications professionals, has recently welcomed its first two employees, bolstering its team of freelance writers.

New Marketing Manager Jodie Heginbotham, from Sandiacre, started her career in PR, working on award-winning campaigns for national brands including Vision Express. More recently, she turned her attention to business development and marketing, helping to shape and promote several small businesses before joining The Effective English Company towards the end of 2019.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the team, bringing my varied skillset to my new role as marketing manager,” she comments. “The last few months have been incredibly exciting, and we’ve got lots of plans for more growth this year.”

Jo Elliott first joined The Effective English Company as a freelance writer in August 2019 and is now taking on the newly created role of operations manager. Having worked in communications for over 20 years, she has held roles in a variety of organisations including an examination provider, an international executive search association, the NHS and charity, in both the UK and the United States.

A ‘people person’ with a strong background in team management, project management and customer relationships, Jo is also training as a psychotherapist in her spare time. She says: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining The Effective English Company as operations manager at such an exciting time for the company, and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and being part of its future growth.”

The Effective English Company, which works predominantly with the NHS and other health sector organisations, was founded in 2013 by Ali Marsland, who realised there was a market for a flexible service that provides extra communications support at short notice – with no commitment, no obligation and no catch. Now, with a team of seven, the business is perfectly resourced to support its growing roster of clients.

“We’ve been working to support busy communications teams in the NHS and other industries for more than six years and we’re now looking to expand to help more organisations,” says Ali. “Our flexible, on-demand service has been really well received and these past 12 months have been incredibly rewarding as we’ve grown.

“I’ve had a team of freelance writers working with me since 2013 and I’m now really pleased to be welcoming our first two employees to the business. Jo is already a key member of our team and Jodie is a great addition; both bring a wealth of experience to their roles.

“We all work 100% remotely, which means we can be responsive to clients’ needs at short notice, but we’re also a close-knit group and we’re all very excited to see what the rest of 2020 brings.”
