With many small businesses now focussed on growing in a post-Brexit and post-Covid world, their sales and marketing strategy is top of their agenda and to help them The Overtake consultancy, has launched offering integrated sales and marketing advice to business to business (B2B) small and mid-sized UK companies.
Christian Doyle, Director at The Overtake “2020 was a difficult year for many small businesses, but we also saw some great success stories of companies diversifying their products and services. 2021 is the year when they now need to set their sights on growing again and we have launched to help B2B focussed companies get the most out of an integrated sales and marketing strategy to deliver on their growth targets.”
To make help get the most out of the current lockdown The Overtake has four quick and low cost actions to help your business grow.
- With the current travel restrictions in place your on-line presence is more important than ever. The most effective way to show off your capabilities is case studies.
They are free and demonstrate your competitive advantages. Client case studies provide a reference and can be used across multiple marketing channels easily.
A case study needs to tell a story with photos, preferably before and after. Start with the situation, then define the problem, describe how you built your solution, also mention overcoming any problems encountered and finally the results delivered. Write two versions, one with the client name and one without. Many larger companies don’t like to be seen to endorse suppliers. If so, use the anonymous version, most local sites are happy to sign this off. You can always provide more information when you get enquiries.
2. Speak to your customers! Working from home they may be more amenable to open questions about what they value the most, why they work with you (and hopefully come back for more) and what you can improve on? All this helps focus your competitive advantages, don’t just think of your primary product or service it might be after sales care, or warranty period or more often than not your people. If customers love your service engineers then make some case studies on them!
3. With the above new information update your website with refreshed content, what does google really care about? Good content that engages the audience! Keep your website up to date and check what your visitors are searching for to keep relevant. For example there is no point writing about LVAC switchgear when everyone is looking for LV switchgear!
4. Update LinkedIn. Ensure your company page message matches your website, but also check all your senior employees have updated theirs too. A company is a group of people after all and many prospective buyers also look at the senior team for their capabilities and experience, it’s very reassuring when all the managers are well qualified and are experienced in the industry sector.
Christian Doyle, Director, continues “In summary make sure your business’ online presence is up to date and relevant, as this is how most prospective buyers will be finding you at the moment. At the same time take stock of your current customers to re-engage those that you’ve not contacted for a while, because your competitors will be!
“It is much cheaper and quicker to grow existing customers than find new ones. Talk to them about their problems and what really matters to them. It might well be you have a solution in your portfolio already.”
