Award-winning small animal hospital North Downs Specialist Referrals (NDSR) has expanded its expert team with three new appointments in two services.
The Linnaeus-owned referral centre in Bletchingley, Surrey, has recruited small animal internal medicine diplomate Richard Sparrow, dermatology diplomate Nikoleta Makri and internal medicine diplomate Freddie Allan to join their team.
Freddie is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), board-certified in Small Animal Internal Medicine, with his research and publications focusing mostly on hepatobiliary and endocrine disease.
Fellow medic Richard is also ACVIM board-certified. Richard graduated from the University of Bristol in 2016 with a degree in veterinary science and cellular and molecular medicine. He has a particular interest in immune-mediated and gastrointestinal diseases.
Meanwhile, Nikoleta graduated from the University of Thessaly, Greece, in 2016. She moved to the UK in 2017 and initially worked in general practice before completing a rotating internship at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh.
In 2024, she achieved the European diploma in veterinary dermatology along with a combined master’s degree. Nikoleta enjoys all aspects of veterinary dermatology and has particular interests in ear disease and pododermatitis.
NDSR hospital director Gerry Polton said: “We’re delighted to welcome Richard, Freddie and Nikoleta. All three are exceptional clinicians who bring unique qualities to our team.
“We have an extremely experienced internal medicine service which deals with routine and emergency cases. Richard and Freddie’s expertise is a welcome addition to the department.
“Nikoleta joins our dermatology service lead Inge Geens to further enhance our treatment options and I have no doubt she will become a real asset to NDSR.”
NDSR offers specialist-led services in anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery and spinal surgery.
