A much-loved independent opticians in Chelmsford is eyeing up an exciting future following a £350,000 move to new premises at the heart of the town.

James Bryan Opticians has reopened in New London Road, having moved out of its home of 27 years in The Meadows Shopping Centre. The move is an opportunity for the practice to invest in pioneering eye technology, with a bespoke ground floor testing room now open to patients.

Director Zahir-Ally Kanji took over the practice in 2018 and has overseen the move.

He said: “We have invested hugely in a complete relocation and full refit. We have spent many years looking for the ideal location in the town and over the last year, once finding the premises, we have spent time designing and rebranding in preparation for the fitout.

“We have invested in new testing equipment and dry eye treatments in preparation for the relocation. We have installed a state-of-the-art Rodenstock Impressionist 4+ which is going to transform our dispensing capability and we have answered our patients’ calls to have a downstairs testing room, rather than having to go upstairs in our old home.”

The practice will stock a wide range of spectacles from leading designer brands including Maui Jim & Lindberg as well as introducing O-SIX and Tom Ford ICON.

Practice manager and co-director, Gemma Westall, said: “We’re so excited to begin our new chapter in our new home. The location is perfect with much higher footfall and just allows us to provide a better customer experience in a beautiful space.

“I want the practice to have a really personal feel, where our patients come in and are treated like one of the family. We want to have time to chat and give them the very best experience.

“I’m very much a Chelmsford girl having grown up here and I’m looking forward to working at the heart of the town. I want to get involved in the BID, support community events and help promote everything that Chelmsford has to offer.”

The practice reopened on Monday, 2 February with a four-week ‘soft launch’ ahead of an official opening weekend starting on Thursday, 5 March with an exclusive event for the practice’s eye care plan patients. The event continues on Friday and Saturday, open to all, which will feature iris photography from Rodenstock and a display of the full Maui Jim sunglass collection.
