A leading Midlands recruitment expert has predicted a growth in short term employment contracts as businesses steer away from long term staffing commitments.
The jobs alert has come from James Cronin, Group Commercial Director at the Jarell Group, who believes the changes forced by the Covid pandemic are here to stay with new employees choosing to work from home for part of the week.
With the Cost of Living Crisis, inflation and a current shortage of workers, Mr Cronin believes the next year will be “an interesting journey” for companies and employees in the recruitment market.
He said: “Over the coming months we are very likely to see a growth in short term and temporary contract work as companies steer away from committing to long term contracts.
“The ‘gig’ economy is likely to be stronger than ever. With the candidate marketplace more challenged than ever before, companies will need to review their offering to their existing staff in line with what the market is demanding.”
The Cost of Living crisis is set to continue with recent research from the Bank of England predicting inflation will not be defeated yet and businesses being forced to pay higher energy and fuel prices.
If the UK is on the brink of a recession, one benefit arising from the current climate for companies is employees sticking with their current jobs.
Mr Cronin added: “An ever-lasting impact of Covid-19 will undoubtedly be the request from staff to work from home and those people becoming comfortable in their current roles.
“Flexible working is at a generational high but this can’t continue effectively without ongoing investment in technology, systems and processes – it is going to be an interesting journey.
“Overall, the different economic pressures and issues at play means the second half of 2022 will see employers needing to stay ahead of their competitors to ensure they either retain or attract the best workers in whichever market they are operating in.”
The Jarell Group provides workplace solutions for a whole host of companies and has offices in Birmingham, London, Leeds and Walsall. Earlier this year the company expanded by acquiring KHS Personnel and Bridge Recruitment in Nottingham and York respectively.
