Midlands private GP service backs teenage jump jockey aiming to emulate hero Ruby Walsh

Teenage jump jockey Liam Harrison has secured a sponsorship deal with Concierge Medical

Teenage jump jockey Liam Harrison is a fast-rising starlet on the horse racing circuit and has high hopes of becoming a top professional like his hero, Ruby Walsh.

The 17-year-old hot prospect, from Bath, is still an amateur but has already ridden winners at Cheltenham, Haydock, Uttoxeter, Exeter, Worcester and Stratford.

He’s also sealed a key sponsorship deal with award-winning private GP practice, Concierge Medical, which provides healthcare to individual clients and businesses throughout the Cotswolds, Derbyshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire.

Liam, who had his first Category B race against professionals last June, said: “Horse racing is my passion and has been since my mum first took me to the local riding school when I was just eight years old.

“It quickly became clear that I was less interested in my school studies and more interested in riding horses and, fortunately, my family backed me all the way.

“I was also inspired by my idol, Ruby Walsh, whose career I have followed for years. He’s a great jockey and if I can enjoy a fraction of his success, I’ll be very happy.

“My ambition now is to turn professional next year and make a career in the sport and teaming up with Concierge will be a huge help to me realising that dream.

“Horse racing is a tough game and it can be very hard for a young jockey to break though, so I’m very grateful for their support.”

Liam is already making great strides, riding for top trainer Fergal O’Brien in Cheltenham and being mentored by Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Paddy Brennan.

Liam added: “The help and insight that Paddy has given me has been priceless, he has so much experience and knowledge and he is so quick to pass it all on.

“It’s a fantastic education and I’m so keen to learn more and keep improving.”

Concierge’s medical director, Dr Simon Gillson, a keen horse racing fan, said: “Liam is certainly an exciting, young rider with a great deal of promise and talent.

“Just as importantly, he is totally dedicated to becoming the best he can be. He’s a hard-worker who’s always keen to learn and we are looking forward to seeing him build a career in the sport.”
