Sustainable North Yorkshire manufacturer Two Green Leaves launches new Whitby inspired Desk range.
Inspired by the stunning scenery in North Yorkshire, the Whitby desk range has two variants; “Contemporary Hygge” inspired by the clean and crisp coast landscape and “Vintage Industrial” which is inspired by Whitby’s rich industrial heritage.
Founded in 2012 by Gareth Davies after a long career in manufacturing and design, Two Green Leaves designs and manufactures their products from scratch using sustainable materials from their Wykeham workshop near Scarborough. Due to increased demand for home office furniture, the business recently grew to 5 full time employees.
During lockdown, demand for desks has soared as people seek to equip their home offices. Spotting a gap in the market for locally manufactured desks that reflect the region, the Two Green Leaves team wanted to develop two styles that capture both the natural and architectural aspects of North Yorkshire.
On developing the new range, Creative Design Specialist Kate Maitland-Gleed explains: “I live just outside of the town of Whitby, in a village called Grosmont, home to the engine shed of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Both the gothic architecture of Whitby Abbey and the polished industrial environment of the steam railway have contributed to the Industrial Vintage desk’s aesthetic.
The NYMR actually kindly allowed us to use their engine shed to shoot our product images. It was a nice ‘full circle’ moment for me.
The ‘Contemporary Hygge’ desk is the stripped back and natural version of its industrial twin, reflecting the beautiful landscapes of the North Yorkshire Moors and its vast array of impressive woodlands.”
Every detail of the desks is meticulously crafted at the Two Green Leaves workshop, from hand turned drawer knobs to customisable glass windows.
Consisting of exceptionally durable materials such as steel and ash, the desks are designed to last a lifetime. The use of natural wood also means that each piece is subtly unique.
