LGBT+ from bullying and poor mental health to systemic change

LGBT+ people make up between 2-5% of the population of the UK and sadly still experience high levels of discrimination in the workplace and significant health inequalities, especially around mental health and wellbeing. (BITC Wellbeing Report).

Work can be a powerful force for good, fostering a positive, supportive environment that enhances the mental health and wellbeing of LGTB+ individuals. It can offset some negative societal influences. However, work environments can also be harmful and destructive, particularly when individuals face homophobia, biphobia, or transphobia from colleagues, customers, or contractors. Responsible business involves crafting a workplace that helps individuals reach their professional and personal potential and encourages them to express their true selves without fear of discrimination or harm.

This Pride Month is not just about a month dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ communities worldwide; it’s about raising awareness, starting conversations, and making changes to support the community in many ways.

Goho has announced their Pride Dinner this June, with guest speaker Raga D’silva. Raga is an author, TEDx speaker, columnist, entrepreneur, and LGBT+ rights activist. Over the last 30 years, she has worked in media, entertainment, and advertising in numerous geographies, including India, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore. They have dedicated their efforts to championing the rights and well-being of the community.

At the dinner, Raga D’silva, Co-Founder of OUTspoken Speakers and Speaking Minds, and Goho will discuss the need for allyship for the LGBTQ+ community and actionable steps we can take as leaders to ensure lasting change. The Pride Dinner is at the gorgeous Broadwick Hotel in Soho.

If you’d like to join us on the 19th of June for a get-together of great minds, brilliant conversation, delicious food and a shared interest in making a change – please contact stacey@thisisgoho.com.

The dinner is free to attend, but we would welcome donations (suggested minimum £50pp), which will be donated to the social enterprise OUTspoken. It is the UK’s first speaker platform exclusively set up for LGBTQ+ women and those who are non-binary. This incredible business, run by Raga D’silva and her co-founder Polly Shute, seeks to drive change and equality for all.

“As one person I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of one person.”

That starts with conversations and actions for change.
