Leicestershire business helps local homelessness charity drive forward its Van Appeal

Hinckley Plumbing & Heating Services has donated £500 to Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland’s urgent Van Appeal, helping the local homelessness charity take another step towards replacing its ageing vehicle.

As part of their support, Hinckley Plumbing also visited Emmaus with a van full of donated furniture collected by staff. The items are now on sale at the Emmaus Emporium charity shop on Stockwell Head in Hinckley, with proceeds going towards the appeal.

Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland urgently needs to raise £18,000 to replace its 10-year-old van, which is essential for collecting donated furniture from local homes and businesses. These donations are then sold in the Emporium to raise vital funds to support people who have experienced homelessness.

Dawn Wright, Director of Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland, said: “We’re so grateful to the team at Hinckley Plumbing & Heating Services for their generosity and community spirit. Their donation, along with the furniture they collected, will make a real difference.

“Our van is absolutely essential to our work – it allows us to collect donations, run our shop, and provide meaningful work opportunities for the people we support.

“We’d love to hear from other local businesses who might be able to help us reach our target, whether that’s through a donation or by sponsoring our new van and having their logo featured as it travels across Leicestershire and Rutland.”

Speaking about their decision to support Emmaus, Allison Finnegan, from Hinckley Plumbing & Heating Services, said: “We believe in supporting causes that make a real and lasting difference in people’s lives. That’s why we’ve chosen to support Emmaus. They offer more than just a bed for the night – they offer purpose, belonging, and the opportunity to regain confidence and independence. By supporting their work, we’re helping to create lasting change, not just short-term solutions.”

Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland provides accommodation, tailored support, training and work opportunities to help people rebuild their lives after homelessness. The charity’s community home is in Hinckley and includes 16 bedrooms for people who have experienced or been at risk of homelessness.
