An anonymous donor has bought £1000 worth of vouchers from a Manchester restaurant – to be given to NHS workers.

The incredible act of kindness has taken place at Wood on First Street, which is owned by former Masterchef winner Simon Wood.

Many restaurants across Greater Manchester have launched voucher schemes in an attempt to keep cash flow coming into their businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The idea is that diners can redeem the vouchers for a meal at a later date, when it is safe to do so.

But this kind-hearted individual has insisted the huge sum of vouchers they’ve bought be handed out to the NHS staff working on the front line of the fight against the virus.

Simon Wood said: “This is an incredible act of kindness in a time when we should pull together and help support NHS and front line workers.

“It’s times like this that remind us that we must all stick together and look after one another.

“We would like to send our thanks and gratitude to the person who purchased the £1,000 voucher, for supporting local restaurants like Wood in our time of need.

“We will now use this incredible donation to gift 21 NHS workers with a five course tasting menu as an incredible thank you for working tirelessly to provide 24 hour care to those in need.”

Earlier last week, the government advised that stricter social distancing measures were needed in the fight to slow the spread of coronavirus.

Boris Johnson urged people to stay away from pubs, bars, restaurants and theatres to prevent to further spread of Covid-19.

It’s led to many restaurants and bars closing their doors, and others with very few diners visiting them.

Hospitality businesses in the city are now doing their best to adapt, offering delivery and collection services to their local areas.

Some have a brand new offering, others are increasingly reliant on their existing takeaway trade.

Whatever their circumstances, if you don’t want to lose them – use them.
