The fashion and clothing market has minimal options for children on the autism spectrum and those with sensory sensitivities. Dope Soul Village is breaking new ground with its Sensory Smart© All-in-one Nightwear.
Currently, 1 in every 100 people is diagnosed with autism, which means approximately 700,000 people in the UK. An extra 1.2 million people with autism are predicted to be undiagnosed, which means they are living unaided, and without the support they need. Many are struggling with sensory issues with no solution.
Designed specifically for children who struggle with irritation from conventional clothing, the nightwear features a tag-free, flat-seam design, ensuring comfort while minimising sensory triggers.
Parents of autistic children often face challenges in finding clothing that doesn’t exacerbate sensory overload, such as tags, rough seams, or uncomfortable fabrics. The Sensory Smart© Nightwear is made from soft, breathable materials and includes a back zipper for ease of dressing, ideal for parents managing morning routines or bedtime transitions. Additionally, they have a broad collection of stylish, bright, and themed designs which combat the plain, hospital-like options currently on the market, making it more fun for the children.
Founder’s Vision
“You have no idea how hard it is to have a baby and raise your child that has autism and sensory needs – most of us are totally underprepared. Sleepless nights are apparent for all parents, but you can’t imagine how it feels every morning to spend hours cleaning the cot, walls and carpet because your sensitive sensory child has ripped off their irritating clothing, thrown and smeared their nappy waste everywhere. And that’s just one small aspect of having an autistic child.
Studies have shown that more than 50% of mothers report a decreased ability to enjoy life as they face the challenges associated with raising a child with ASD.
The lack of sensory-friendly clothing for children on the spectrum inspired us to create this collection. It made my child more comfortable,” said the founder of Dope Soul Village, Samantha Patrick. “Our nightwear combines functionality and empathy, giving autistic children the comfort they deserve without sacrificing style.”
Empowering Women and Supporting Domestic Violence Survivors
In addition to improving the lives of autistic children, the brand continues its mission of supporting women in need. With 20% of all sales going towards initiatives that assist domestic violence survivors, Dope Soul Village is a brand that makes both a social and practical impact.
