A Herefordshire school is celebrating the completion of a renovation project which has created a better learning environment for pupils.
The work at Much Birch Primary School was carried out by Welshpool-based SWG Group and took place during April and May 2025.
Much of the renovation was carried out during the holidays to limit disruption to the day-to-day running of the school. The project was part of the Herefordshire Council’s Schools Capital Maintenance Programme.
Anne Tweddell, the school’s business manager, said: “The renovation has been very successful, and we are absolutely delighted with the results. The project came in on time and has made major improvements – making for a better learning environment for our pupils.
“The efficiency and attention to detail accompanied by the consideration shown by the site manager to our needs as a school impressed us very much. We are most grateful for SWG’s performance and workmanship.”
Shaun Humphries, director of SWG Construction, said: “We were awarded the contract for Much Birch Primary School late last year following a successful open tender process via the council’s procurement portal and were able to carry out the renovation within the outlined time frame during April and May 2025.
“It was a great project to work on and we are delighted with the end result and the feedback we have received from the school.
“This project involved comprehensive upgrades to the school. Key works included the installation of a suspended ceiling with LED grid lighting and hanging LED lighting to the main hall.
“The existing high-level render was replaced with a new Rockpanel complete system, while new roof lights and windows were installed to enhance natural light and energy efficiency.
“Externally, we designed and installed an ACO drain system, complete with groundworks and drainage connections, to ensure effective water management.
“These improvements provided the school with a more energy-efficient environment while upgrading its appearance and functionality.
“To minimise disruption to classes the main works were carried out during the school holidays when staff and pupils were absent.”
