A county golf club has donated more than £4,000 to a hospice after taking on a year’s worth of fundraising activities.

The ladies’ section of The Worcestershire Golf Club raised a total of £4,015 for St Richard’s Hospice during 2019, donating the sum just before Christmas.

Fundraising activities included golfing competitions, lunches, collecting loose change, a Christmas cake raffle, cake sale and more.

Julia Radley, Lady Captain of the Worcestershire Golf Club from October 2018 to October 2019, said: “I want to thank the ladies of Worcestershire Golf Club for supporting this worthwhile cause.

“I feel very proud – I am just delighted to be able to make our donation.”

The donation will help St Richard’s continue to fund its care to patients with serious, progressive illnesses, their loved ones and bereaved people.

Rachel Jones, Fundraising Manager at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We are very grateful to the ladies of Worcestershire Golf Club for raising money in support of our care.

“They have raised a terrific amount which will help us continue to offer free physical, emotional and spiritual support to people when they need us most.”

St Richard’s Hospice cares for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life from diagnosis, during treatment and to their last days. It also supports their loved ones.

Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,400 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.

St Richard’s is an independent charity and relies on donations and gifts in Wills for the majority of its income with 22% funded by the NHS.

The hospice is also raising funds for the Build 2020 Appeal and is part way through developing a bigger hospice, enabling more patients and families to be cared for in Worcestershire. The total cost for expanding and redeveloping the existing building in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, is £5.3m.
