A foodpreneur from Cambridge grew his side hustle keto bakery twenty times during the pandemic and changed his and his families life
A home kitchen baker from Cambridge has gone from baking in his kitchen to running a successful low-carb Brownie business full time. Dan Greef, from Deliciously Guilt Free has also been named one of Yahoo’s top ten foodpreneurs of 2020.
Lockdown changed Dan and his family’s life forever. Last March Dan was teaching A levels in a special needs environment by day, tutoring each evening and baking his low carb, low sugar cakes by night. One year later his side hustle has grown twenty times and he now employs five staff and is looking to recruit more. In December Yahoo Finance recognised this huge achievement and awarded Dan the title of ‘A top 10 Foodprenuer of 2020’.
The Health Survey for England 2019 estimates that 28.0% of adults in England are obese and a further 36.2% are overweight but not obese. Sugar is a major contributor to the obesity pandemic which is a huge factor in Covid comorbidity
Dan says, “The Prime Minister says that in light of the pandemic we need to be healthier and I agree with him. One of the best ways we can do this is by cutting more sugar from our diets and that’s what Deliciously Guilt Free is all about. My dream is that everyone in the UK can cut back on sugar in their diet but still enjoy a piece of cake”.
When Dan’s doctor wife, Basma, got gestational diabetes during her pregnancies their sugar free mission began. They decided to dramatically cut their sugar and carb intake back for their family’s health. This inspired her and Dan to follow a sugar free low carb diet and is the start of the journey of how Deliciously Guilt Free (DGF) started.
