From auditor to acquirer: Veena Giridhar Gopal’s next FMCG chapter

Veena Giridhar Gopal

Veena Giridhar Gopal has never been short on ambition.

She began her career as an auditor at Grant Thornton in Botswana, a respected professional path with a clear route to partnership. But while the role offered security, it didn’t offer what she was searching for: the opportunity to shape and grow businesses strategically, rather than simply regulate them.

Keen to move closer to decision-making and value creation, and recognising the limited opportunities available in a smaller market, Veena made the decision to pursue an MBA overseas. That move opened the door to a global FMCG career, with senior roles at multinational corporations including Diageo and PepsiCo. Over the next 25 years, she built deep expertise across consumer goods and retail, driving growth in markets spanning Africa, Europe, the Middle East and South Asia.

Having led large-scale business transformations exceeding £100 million, Veena has now turned her focus to entrepreneurship. Her next chapter is centred on acquiring an established consumer goods business in the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland.

Her ideal acquisition target would be a business with EBITDA between £1.5 million and £7 million, operating in sectors such as packaged food and beverages, personal care and cosmetics, home care and hygiene, or nutraceuticals and supplements.

“I’m excited to embark on this next stage of my career,” Veena says. “After many years in the consumer goods sector, my ambition is to acquire an established brand and help it reach new heights. This search will be conducted thoughtfully and purposefully, with the potential to make a meaningful impact in the industry.”
