Former intern Naomi joins list of leading young women in tech

ImageNPay marketing executive is role model for female talent.

A student who was hired as an executive after joining a fintech start-up as an intern is campaigning to attract other young women to the technology sector.

Naomi Harris, 21, is now Head of Digital Marketing at ImageNPay, the payments app that aims to rid the world of plastic charge cards.

Research shows that women hold just 5% of leadership roles in tech companies – hence there is an urgent need for greater diversity. A video of Naomi was posted online by the Workfinder platform ahead of International Women’s Day.

Naomi said: “It’s shocking that just 1 in 20 senior roles in tech are filled by women. The sector can be very male-dominated, but things are starting to improve and we are beginning to address that disconnect with women.”

Naomi is amongst a forthcoming list of inspirational achievers compiled by the Tech She Can campaign, which aims to encourage girls and women to study technology subjects so that they can participate in the jobs of the future.

She was studying for a degree in Global Sustainable Development at the University of Warwick when she saw an ad on Workfinder for a marketing internship at ImageNPay.

The payments platform enables users to customise images on virtual Mastercard that can be used to make payments online or via smartphone. Bosses were so impressed by Naomi that they hired her.

She revealed: “I applied because I was interested in marketing, but tech isn’t a sector that I would normally have considered. I now know that the industry is in urgent need of more women. I’m passionate about the environment and I wanted to work for a company that has sustainability at their core.”

ImageNPay CEO Michael Donald said: “Naomi is a great leader and she is proving to be a fantastic asset for the company. Women bring a huge range of skills to the tech sector and we ignore that at our peril.”

Naomi is currently working full time whilst taking time out from her studies. She tells her story at https://www.imagenpay.com/post/interview-with-naomi-head-of-digital-marketing-at-imagenpay.

Meanwhile the ImageNPay app is available on Apple or Android, where you can choose a design for a virtual Mastercard that supports International Women’s Day.
